The late 90s/early twenty-first century saw several relatives of established musicians use their connections to land record deals themselves, such as Deadsy, Adema, and especially Audiovent. Not only does the Calabasas, California, USA-based quartet feature two brothers of members of alternative metal band Incubus, but they also play the same instruments as their more renowned older siblings: Jason Boyd (b. 30 April 1979) is related to Incubus vocalist Brandon Boyd, and Benjamin Einziger (b. 21 August 1978) to guitarist Mike Einziger. Most of the band's members first met in middle school during the early 90s, and by the time that they issued an independent debut release in 2000, Papa's Dojo, under their original name, Vent, bass player Paul Fried (b. 2 May 1978; step-brother of Einziger) and drummer Jamin Wilcox (b. 3 August 1979) had solidified the line-up. With Incubus breaking through to the mainstream by this time, Audiovent (who posses more than just a passing musical resemblance to their older brothers' band) landed a deal with Atlantic Records. With producer Gavin McKillop at the helm, Audiovent issued their major label debut, Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris, in 2002.
